10 Questions With Eva Modika

10 Questions With Eva Modika

Hi Miss Eva, we’ve had our fair share of drama but that’s a story for another day. I know you are booked and busy but I just have a couple of questions for you.

  • What inspired you to be a DJ?

OMG, I draw inspiration from everywhere. With a background from club hosting and having been doing it for over five years I felt it was time to move on. I also just got bored with club hosting.

  • What style or type of music do you play?

Afro-Tech, I play a lot of Black Coffee, Euphonik, Oscar Mbo and the likes. I decided to play Afro-Tech because it is a difficult genre to play. This genre is also very much male dominated.

  • Are you a trained DJ or you are just winging it?

Yes, I took my first lessons back in 2018 and have continued to do since then. I do have my own equipment, that shows how serious I am with being a DJ and I use it to practice and better my craft all the time. My debut performance was at YFM on the 29th September 2023, I was so proud of myself for having achieved that. If you were to compare that set and my recent sets you would notice the difference because I work so hard to have each set better than the last one.

  • You are also a founder of Pretty Much Beauty (SA), how is it doing? Are people buying the products?

People are buying the products, I am also not gonna lie. Business has been a bit slow when it comes to individual or walk-in clientele. Most of my business comes from make-up artists and make-up school owners who buy the products in bulk. Y’all should also be careful because some people do cook their numbers to make it seem like their businesses are doing well meanwhile the latter.

Do you think Hermosa Flor cooks their numbers?

I don’t know what or who that is, I’ve never heard of them. What do they do?

  • Wait, your friend Doromongy also has Doro Skin, your thoughts? Because everybody be saying her shit burns your skin.

Doromongy’s products have burned my skin before. That thing gave me serious acne you could’ve seen my face back then, I think it was in 2018. When Doromongy gave me the products at the time they had purple packaging and I got ditshubaba as a result of using her products. I tried speaking to her about the results of her products mind you I didn’t even use it for more than five days instead she was defensive, wanted to fight as usual and lacked accountability.

  • Do you think you are a better DJ than Sithelo?

I’ve never heard her play anywhere. The one time we were booked in Limpopo and she never played so I didn’t get a chance to hear her set so I can’t comment on that.

  • By the way, what is your beef with her?

There is no beef. Next question,

  • Do you consider yourself a slay queen or a business-woman?

Definitely a slay queen, I never have a problem with being called a slay queen. After all being a slay queen is about waking up, looking good and making your money.

  • What should we expect from Eva Modika going forward?

I don’t really like to tell people what I do but we are putting in the work. I don’t even have time for myself but having a good support structure really helps. Inno Morolong is a very good friend of mine and she is always there for me and I appreciate that.

  • If one is interested in booking you, how do they go about that?
